Mining and local museum with tourist mine in Mühblach
Did you know that people on the Mitterberg near Mühlbach am Hochkönig mined copper and copper ore already ca 4,000 years ago? Today the mining and local museum with tourist mine dedicates itself to the memories of the former mine. Experienced miners from the old days will tell you about the mining history. Hohenwerfen Castle
Only a couple of kilometres away from your Bergheimat Holiday Hotel you will find the Hohenwerfen Castle in Werfen, it's the former fortification from the 11th century. The Hohenwerfen Adventure Castle accommodates a weapon exhibition, a castle pub and a knight's shop. During the summer you will be able to watch hawks, the “air hunters”, during demonstrations by the national hawk association.
Salzwelten Hallein near Salzburg
For years the salt mines within the Dürnberg mountain near Hallein have been the tunnels of wealth for the city and region of Salzburg. Visit the oldest mine in the world open to the public and transport yourself back through the 2.500 year-long history of salt, the "white gold" of past centuries. Follow in the footsteps of the Celts, who have been mining salt here since 400 B.C. and discover the secret world of the minesers who, with their bare hands, dug out miles of labyrinthine tunnels under the mountains.
Werfen World of the Ice Giants
Discover the fascinating caves of the world's largest ice cave. The cave system stretches over 42 kilometres and in the first part you will be able to marvel at huge ice figures.
Liechtenstein Gorge
The legendary, world-famous Liechtenstein Gorge in St. Johann is worth a visit at any weather. Walk over bridges and planks over gorges that were caved out by white water millions of years ago. Sometimes the rock formations are so high and close together that the sky is nothing but a thin strip between them.
Krimml WaterWonderWorld
Right at the access to the Krimml Waterfalls you can visit this themed park as an addition to the impressive natural spectacle. Apart from the educational exhibition area, there is also the Aquaszenarium with unique and interactive projection shows and the outdoor WaterWonderWorks that provids lots of fun with various water attractions especially for children. Kaprun high alpine water reservoirs
Embedded between the rough Hohe Tauern rock formations you will find the two water reservoirs: Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden. Busses and the Lärchwand cable car will take you up to 2,040m where you will be able to enjoy wonderful views over the glacier world with the Kitzsteinhorn.
Großglockner High Alpine Road
The impressive road to Austria's highest summit is rightly one of the country's most popular alpine roads. Along the road you will find many opportunities to marvel at the diverse natural environment, to enjoy the mountain panorama and to visit various exhibitions.
Hohe Tauern National Park
With an area of more than 1,800m² this is Austria's biggest national park. The Hohe Tauern National Park stretches over parts of Salzburgerland, Tyrol and Carinthia and comprises most of the 3,000m mountains of the Alpine divide. Several animals and plants, that became extinct in other regions, are at home here. The best way to get to know various natural wonders is a tour or a themed hike with national park rangers. For rainy days we recommend a visit at the National Park Museum in Mittersill, only about an hour away from Mühlbach am Hochkönig.
