Climbing and mountaineering

Hochkönig climbing paradise

The Hochkönig with its 2,943 metres is definitely one of the Alps' most impressive massifs. Its rough chalk rocks and many interconnected climbing tours on all sides of the mountain make the Hochkönig Massif an El Dorado for climbers and mountaineers from all over the world. At your Bergheimat Hotel you are very close: the climbing experience waits for you right at the hotel's doorstep in Mühlbach in Salzburgerland.

Action and adventure when climbing on the various routes in the Hochkönig Mountains

Move by move, step by step on the mountain's pulse. As original and basic as the rough rock formation are the climbing moves. With the right safety equipment, strength, stamina and courage you are well equipped and ready for the climbing experience on the Hochkönig.

Mountaineer training at the Alpin Park in Dienten

At the Markus Hirnböck Alpine and Skiing School experienced mountain and climbing guides will introduce you to the world of mountaineering. You will get information about the right equipment, shoes and tour planning. Start your first attempts on the climbing rock and the practice via ferrata, where you can practise the climbing and belaying techniques under the tutelage of professional guides. The mountaineer training takes about 3 hours, the day price is € 45.00 (with the Hochkönig Card only € 32.00) for adults and € 30.00 (with the Hochkönig Card € 21.00) for children.

Taghaube – Grandlspitzscharte guided mountain tour

You have the opportunity to go on a mountain tour on the Taghaube with a professional mountain guide. You will hike from the Dientner Sattel to the Erichhütte hut and then to the Taghaube mountain top. Up to the Erichhütte hut (30 minutes) this is quite a comfortable hike; the ascent to the Taghaube (1.5 hours) is more challenging and requires surefootedness. The rest of the way leads over a short and easy via ferrata up to the Grandlspitzscharte (1 hour) and back to the Erichhütte hut (1 hour). The whole tour takes about 5-6 hours.

Day price € 70.00 for adults & € 55.00 for children (suitable for children from the age of 15 and over)

Climbing on the Hochkönig

The Königsjodler is considered to be the Majesty of via ferratas on the Hochkönig and is also Austria's longest via ferrata. The challenge is not in the strength but it the stamina this trail requires. The tour takes a whole day and several buttes and vertiginous ravines have to be conquered. That is why we at the Bergheimat Hotel call guests, who have successfully taken on that challenge, “kings”.

South face & climbing face (sectors A and B)
The Hochkönig's south face features a hight of up to 800 metres and offers several alpine classics.

Mandlwand (sector C)
Right behind the Bergheimat Hotel you will find the Mandlwand rock face, the south-eastern foothill of the Hochkönig Massif. Many bizarre summits and buttes characterise the look of this mountain crest. If you prefer individual climbing than you will find almost unlimited opportunities here.

Torsäule (sector D1)
The bizarre rock formation of this climbing sector impresses already from afar. The south-facing location and the climbing-friendly chalk makes this area especially attractive for climbers. More than 36 refurbished tours can be conquered here.

Immlauer mountains (sector D2-D5)
Here you will find various leisure climbing tours. The good safety appliances and the easy access make hits climbing sector the most visited on the Hochkönig.

Livingroom slackline park with boulder areas
If you want to be slowly introduced to climbing then you are in good hands in the Hochkönig Livingroom. Two boulder areas are available for you where you can enjoy climbing without long preparations or any alpine dangers.
If you feel ready for the Hochkönig climbing world after the first steps on the climbing wall, then you can explore the mountain with an experienced tour guide.

Slackline park
In the Livingroom Slackline Park you will find several always readily taut lines. Apart from Easy-Lines with balancing aids, Jump-Lines and Long-Lines there are also unique Steep Lines waiting for you. Cosy beanbag chairs add to the Livingroom feel and can be used for relaxing breaks in between.
